Hello all, this is the maiden post for the blog. =)
I’ve been blogging for the past seven years and before that, relied on ftp for journal publishing back in the heydays of 28k modems. Recently, in the midst of setting up my online portfolio, it dawned on me to start a photography blog. However, faced with the countless photoblogs and excellent blogs on photography out there, what can I contribute that people would want to read?
I have always been a captive audience of the good photography blogs - namely Alec Soth’s, Conscientious and a whole lot of other great stuff out there. However, I wanted to find out more about Asian photography, what is shaping it now, what is going on and I faced a major problem…it was hard to find out anything at all. Save for Japan-Photo.info, a fine blog on contemporary Japanese photography, I didn’t know where else to look.
Well, to put a long story short, I decided to start one on my own. I’m treating this blog as a long term research project, to discover Asia’s photographers and to construct a meaningful dialogue out of the noise we face everyday. I want to expand my network and to meet new people in the region. I want to learn and share my discovery, as well as having an online repository, so that it would be easy to refer back in the future.
I may do interviews, review books, introduce websites, list events or highlight photo festivals in Asia. I don’t know, the possibilities are endless. I invite you to help me in my quest and thanks for visiting!
