anothermountainman / Stanley Wong is a talented photographer/designer/film director/creative director (the list goes on…) from Hong Kong. In his widely known redwhiteblue series, he examines the role of the ubiquitous red, white and blue tarpaulin material in our daily lives; as bags, shelters, covers, etc.

Spanning almost two decades, the work poses questions on the identity of this iconic symbol, as it is seen spanning out from China to different parts of the world.

In another series, Lan Wei Lou, he photographed derelict buildings, which stood in testament to a property bubble that burst in China in the 1980s. He sought to capture the relics of this madness of crowds, and also to reflect upon the decaying spirit that seem to permeate all aspects of life since.

German-born photographer, Michael Wolf, has lived in Hong Kong since 1995. His work focuses on the vernacular culture of people living in Hong Kong and China.

From the Robert Koch Gallery:

Wolf delves into subjects such as the formal and improvisational aesthetics of Hong Kong’s architectural forms, the often-overlooked human presence at the heart of international industry, and the idiosyncratic ways city-dwellers shape their surroundings in an “organic metropolis.”

Hong Kong born Dinu emigrated to the UK when he was just a child. Think in Pictures has got the lowdown on Dinu Li’s current exhibition for his The Mother of All Journeys series. The series traces memories of his mother’s move from China to Hong Kong and finally to England.

From his statement:

I am interested to compare the real with that of my imagination. Together with my mother, we retrace her footsteps, excavating personal histories that have been left dormant in their original surroundings. It is also about my own experience as I backtrack, reliving the stories I have stored in my own memory.

[all images © Dinu Li]

His captions add an additional dimension to the pictures by quoting his mother on a particular place/memory. It makes the images more accessible to the viewer, underscoring the importance of good captioning for one’s photos.

I found this quote particularly funny. We went to the theatre because your dad wanted to teach me about western culture. I thought I was going to see a play, but these half naked men got on stage and started throwing each other about. They had names like “Big Daddy” and “Giant Haystacks.”
