Jinnine Pak

Based in Brooklyn, young photographer Jinnine Pak’s series on women has got some interesting images [NSFW]. She focused her energies on creating unapologetic sentimental feminine images of women. In a world filled with Photoshopped women and plastic surgery, this real look is very much welcomed. TOP TO BOTTOM, from (”Women“) © Jinnine Pak Jinnine approached strangers to [...]

Hasisi Park

Young, talented and irreverent, that’s how I would describe Hasisi Park, a Korean-born film-maker/photographer currently now residing in London. Her bio page is chock full of funny anecdotes which shows a side of her quirky personality. She describes a random moment in 2008: “wondering about how many same suits Kim Jeong Il has.” TOP TO BOTTOM, [...]

Jongchul Lee

New York-based photographer Jongchul Lee has got some interesting portraits up on his website. I’m not totally taken by it all but I think the gems are worth a mention. His black-and-white dance series is pretty interesting too. TOP TO BOTTOM, (from “Portraits“) © Jongchul Lee I wonder what makes a portrait outstanding? How does it transcend [...]

Ye Rin Mok

I first saw Ye Rink Mok’s work in Hard Candy years ago. I was wondering at the point of time how a pedophiliac photographer could produce such breathtaking images. But of course, that was just a movie plot and the person behind the images was someone else (and female too). TOP TO BOTTOM © Ye Rin Mok Born [...]

Suyeon Yun

I found Suyeon Yun’s works whimsical on many levels. Some pictures work because of effective titling, while others contain visual puns that gives the images an extra edge (best seen large). Incomplete Journey, split into three chapters, brings the viewer through several layers of Korean society. TOP TO BOTTOM, Eden, Speedo, Seoul Plaza I, Bouquet (from [...]

Yeondoo Jung

Yeondoo Jung’s Wonderland series transforms children’s crayon drawings into photographs that are part make-believe, part reality. For four months, Jung oversaw art classes in four kindergartens in Seoul and collected 1,200 drawings by children between the ages of five and seven. After pouring through them, he carefully selected 17 drawings and interpreted their meanings. Then he [...]

Jeong-Mee Yoon

The Pink and Blue Project by Korean photographer, Jeong-Mee Yoon, shows boys and girls with a collection of their personal items. The color pink represents femininity whilst blue represents masculinity, and we see the children surrounded by items that typify their gender. [all images from the Pink and Blue Project, 2005 - 2007, © Jeong-Mee Yoon] More [...]

Jhinryung Oh

Dream of a Spider Women by Korean Jhinryung Oh is unsettling. Set against Nature as a backdrop, the mysterious masked figures frightens and bewilders the viewer at the same time. [all images from Dream of the Spider Women (2003-2006), © Jhinryung Oh] She writes: Together with my dolls, I dream of rambling around another space. Refusing to accept [...]

Yoonki Kim

Yoonki Kim is a Korean currently living in Bangkok now. He recently sent me a link to a series of images, 70 Rai, made in Bangkok’s Klongtoey slum. The initial images were endearing; the smiles of the sitters radiant despite their surroundings. I was touched when I saw how happy they looked. Perhaps I miss [...]
