Bangladesh, standing on the edge

Munem Wasif has received this year’s City of the Perpignan Young Reporter’s Award at Visa pour l’Image, the premier International Festival of Photojournalism. I wrote about Wasif last September here. Since then, he has worked on a number of excellent work and his name seems to be popping up everywhere.

Munem’s work is well described on Shahidul Alam’s blog:

The way Wasif takes his photographs can be summed up into two ways: people and the frame. He definitely belongs to a humanist tradition, contemporary in content for the attention he gives to people and to the way they live, what they have to endure and all they bear in today’s pitiless world, disrupted, torn by drastic climatic changes and economic speculation.

Congratulations to Munem and I believe that this recognition will only push him towards greater stuff in the future!
