Sohrab Hura

Sohrab Hura’s Land of a Thousand Struggles depicts the harsh realities of the rich-poor divide in India. While we witness high rises growing rapidly in the major cities, many live below the poverty line, often working for less than minimum wage and under absurd conditions.

In the end despite all the economic accolades that the new India that is shining in the eyes of the world achievers, in the long run it is the ice below the surface, the forgotten India outside the cities, that will determine the overall economic and social health of this country.

As India’s elections kick off this month, many wonder if the politicians will solve the issues plaguing the country. Sohrab’s evocative black-and-white images remind us that much needs to be done for the country, despite its growing GDP amidst the current global economic turmoil.

It’s a pity that seven Chinese photographer were rewarded but no one became a student of Joop Swart Masterclass. So if Sohrab Hura can intrduce himself and his photography shortly to us ?
Could he show us his opinion why the committee choose him to study on Joop Swart Masterclass?
We found the twelve all famous for photojournalism. This is differ from todays World Press Photo a certain extent. What do he think of that?
