Ninagawa Mika

Ninagawa Mika’s palette of highly saturated color threatens to make your eyes bleed from its beauty and grandiosity. I first encountered her Goldfish series a few months back but did not notice who made them. I’m glad to have chanced upon her site today.

She recently had her directorial debut for Sakuran, a film based on a popular manga by Moyocca Anno. Set in the Edo period, it traces the life of Kiyoha as she ascents from the lowly courtesan ranks to the high class position of Oiran [high-class courtesans] in the steamy red-light district of Yoshiwara.

She is represented by the Tomio Koyama gallery. There is a short bio of her here.
